Association of Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders, Inc.
AGMD
Being a spouse of a patient with a motility disease or disorder can be most challenging. In trying to cope with the realities of the chronic illness, the spouse may experience feelings of anger, denial, guilt, and fear. He or she may be faced with job or financial troubles, parenting concerns, intimacy problems, and many other issues that can impact their relationship. The spouse may also have difficulty even believing that his or her loved one is in fact suffering from the illness especially, when he or she doesn't look ill. Relationships can either break or become even stronger under the impact of chronic motility diseases and disorders.
AGMD understands that when chronic illness invades the lives of married couples, it can have a profound impact on the relationship. Because of this, our organization provides special help and resources to the spouses of patients affected by these concerns.
